Ben Franklin #4545 – 302 N. Main (Original Design)
store #4545 first opened in Duncanville, Texas at 611 E. Camp Wisdom
by Ann & Wes Jespersen on October 22, 1964.
Their first business neighbors included Key Rexall Drug, L&S
Grocery Store, V&J Auto Parts, and Charlie’s Barber Shop.
When half of the shopping center closed, the time was right to look for a new location. We soon discovered a vacancy at 302 North Main
Street and Orange Street. Our new store was originally a Patton
and Hood Grocery store. In 1969 the Ben Franklin store #4545 was
relocated to its current location. In May 1973 with the purchase
of the restaurant next door, the store underwent its first remodel.

1980 the business expanded by adding a pharmacy, Ben Franklin
Apothecary. Wes and Ann’s son, Dan, graduated from The University of Nebraska, and decided to place his business with the Ben Franklin store. Today, the pharmacy is a complete Health Care Center
including a diabetes Shoppe with personalized pharmacy care to
serve the whole community. The Pharmacy accepts most all insurance
plans, an approved Medicare provider for prescriptions diabetic
needs, ostomy and colostomy items, and all types of medical equipment
(walkers, wheelchairs, canes, & other Health Aides). The pharmacy
also has the ability to compound medications and flavor medications
for kids. We also offer delivery service.

Ben Franklin further expanded with the addition of “Kitchens
Deli”, with a old-fashioned soda fountain and deli. The deli
offers over 25 different kinds of sandwiches, jumbo stuffed baked
potatoes, soups, salads, and homemade desserts including Blue Bell
hand dipped cones, malts, shakes, sodas, and fountain made drinks.
We offer dine-in or delivery to your work, home, or school. We
also cater for any special occasions. Come in and enjoy the fun.
You will be glad you did.

In 1999 Dan
and Janice purchased the business from his parents, Wes and Ann
The location underwent a total remodel in
2002 to its current design. The wood floors, clock & light
tower with flowing flags, the 1950’s décor in the
deli, and the pharmacy all present a shopping experience for everyone.

Ben Franklin 40th Anniversary – October
Today, Ben Franklin continues to expand and improve. Dan Jespersen purchased the building next to their current location increasing their current salesfloor an additional 3,000 square feet. The grand re-opening for this building was November 2007 and the new building features an expanded quilting center, additional scrapbooking centers, and more space for all your favorite gifts & boutique items.
On April 2, 2008, Wes Jespersen (orginal owner) passed away. The family and members of the Duncanville community celebrated his life and long-time commitment in serving others. Wes will always be remembered for his hard work, dedication to the store, willingness to give to others, goal of improving the quality in life in Duncanville, and love for his family. After his passing, the city of Duncanville renamed the street running alongside the store in his honor, "Wes Jespersen Way".
The family heritage continues as Kasey Cheshier, son-in-law of Dan, now serves as the Store Manager of the store. He is dedicated & excited about the future of the store. At any time, you
might see three generations of family members serving customers.
